Cisco to spend $2.9 billion on Starent Networks


Two weeks after making a $3 billion bid for telepresence service provider Tandberg, Cisco has announced that it is ready to shell out $2.9 billion ($35 cash per share) to acquire Starent Networks.Through this buy Starent, which is a supplier of IP-based mobile infrastructure solutions for mobile and converged carriers, will be turned into the Mobile Internet Technology Group, an entity part of Cisco's Service Provider Business. Starent's President and Chief Executive Officer Ashraf Dahod will head the Mobile Internet Technology Group and report to Pankaj Patel, Cisco Senior Vice President/General Manager.Cisco expects to close the Starent acquisition deal in the first half of 2010.
